Miscanthus sinensis ‘Yakushima Dwarf’ is a compact deciduous ornamental grass. It forms a clump of narrow architectural leaves, with large numbers of attractive silky brown-red flower spikes emerging from the clumps from late summer to early autumn. Overtime the foliage fades to silver, then brown when entering winter. Due to its lower growing habitat of around 100 cm, ‘Yakushima Dwarf’ is suitable for the smaller garden and planting in containers. It can spread up to 110 cm.
Suggested Care: Miscanthus sinensis ‘Yakushima Dwarf’ is suitable for well-drained soil in a sunny position but it will tolerate partial shade. Mulch with organic material in the autumn to protect roots and shoots from freezing. Once shoots begin to re-appear in spring, we suggest to cut them back to about 10 cm, giving the plant a rejuvenating lease of life. Can be divided in early spring once maturity is established. Protect from excessive winter wet.
Planting Instructions:Ā Break up the soil well before planting and dig a hole twice the size of the pot. Remove plant from the pot by tapping the rim of the pot in āup side downā position. Do not pull the plant from the pot. Firm soil after planting and water regularly for the first month. As this is a tall variety, you should leave space between other plants.
