Angelica archangelica is a majestic biennial which bears huge, architectural flowerheads and delicate fresh green seedpods on deeply coloured, pink-flushed, contrasting stems. It is perfect as a staple plant in the back of a border or in a wild garden. This aromatic plant has both culinary and medicinal uses. The stems of second year growth can be used to flavour to jams, jellies and stewed fruit. Medicinally this herb is used to treat indigestion, anemia, coughs and colds. Tea brewed from young leaves relieves nervous headaches.. its flowers are attractive to pollinators while birds are attracted to its seeds. It can grow to a maximum height of 200 cm and spread of 120 cm.
Suggested Care: Angelica archangelica should be planted in moist , humusy soils, positioned in partial shade. It must be protected by excessive winter wet. Wind protection should be provided. Additionally, annual winter mulch is also advised by using well-rotted manure or compost.
Planting Instructions: Break up the soil well before planting and dig a hole twice the size of the pot. Remove plant from the pot by tapping the rim of the pot in āup side downā position. However, do not pull the plant from the pot. Firm soil after planting and water regularly for the first month.
