Asarum Europaeum is a beautiful, slow spreading, ground cover which is adored for its glossy, leathery, heart-shaped, dark green leaves. Its leaves remain evergreen in mild winters. in late spring to early summer, tiny, purple, bell-shaped flowers appear however, they usually go unnoticed as they are covered by the dense foliage. Sweetly pungent roots smell of ginger. This is the perfect plant for ground cover in a shaded area. It grows to approximately 14 cm tall and can spread up to 30 cm. Suggested Care: Asarum Europaeum should be planted in slightly acidic, moist but well-drained, humusy soils, positioned in partial to full shade. For best growing conditions, grow in moderately fertile soils. This plant can be divided in early spring. This plant is generally disease free but can be susceptible to damage caused by slugs and or snails.
Planting Instructions: Break up the soil well before planting and dig a hole twice the size of the pot. Remove plant from the pot by tapping the rim of the pot in ‘up side down’ position. However, do not pull the plant from the pot. Firm soil after planting and water regularly for the first month.
