Cirsium rivulare ‘Atropurpureum’, or the ornamental thistle, is a beautiful perennial suitable for gardens. It features attractive, prickly foliage and deep crimson-pink flowers that bloom in July and August, attracting bees and butterflies. The plant grows upright, reaching about 150 cm (5 feet) in height and spreading 50 cm (20 inches) wide, making it ideal for focal points in mixed borders.

Care includes deadheading spent blooms and possibly light winter mulching.
