Miscanthus sinensis ‘Variegatus’ is an eye-catching clump-forming deciduous grass. Its tall, narrow, arching leaves are a pale green which are highlighted with white vertical streaks that vary in thickness and number. Variegatus’ unusual pale green colour is what differentiates it from other miscanthus varieties. This grass requires a very long growing season to be able to produce flowers. When it does, the plumes appear in early autumn and open with strong red tints.Ā This amazing grass can reach a maximum height of 200 cm when mature.
Suggested Care: Miscanthus sinensis ‘Variegatus’ is suitable for well-drained soil in a sunny position but it will tolerate partial shade. Mulch with organic material in the autumn to protect roots and shoots from freezing. Once shoots begin to re-appear in spring, we suggest to cut them back to about 10 cm, giving the plant a rejuvenating lease of life. Can be divided in early spring once maturity is established. Protect from excessive winter wet.
Planting Instructions:Ā Break up the soil well before planting and dig a hole twice the size of the pot. Remove plant from the pot by tapping the rim of the pot in āup side downā position. Do not pull the plant from the pot. Firm soil after planting and water regularly for the first month. As this is a tall variety, you should leave space between other plants.
