Herbaceous Perennials
Herbaceous plants (in botanical use frequently simply herbs) are plants that have no persistent woody stem above ground. The term is mainly applied to perennials, but in botany it may also refer to annuals or biennials, and include both forbs and graminoids.
Annual herbaceous plants die completely at the end of the growing season or when they have flowered and fruited, and they then grow again from seed.
Herbaceous perennial and biennial plants may have stems that die at the end of the growing season, but parts of the plant survive under or close to the ground from season to season.
Garvinea Sweet Heart Ā®
A strain of hardy perennial Gerbera. Powdery looking coral pink flowers, on tall stems above the foliage will reward you with a stunning display of colour from early Summer right through to the first frosts. An excellent cut-flower. Evergreen and frost hardy to -6ā°c but may need to be overwintered indoors in colder areas. Garden plant for flowerbed in fertile well-drained soil in full sun. An excellent choice for pots or containers. Also suitable in beds, borders, wall-side borders, cottage or courtyard style gardens.
Geum ‘Tempo Rose’
Forms a compact rounded clump of dark green leaves. From early Summer wiry dark red stems rise above the foliage and are topped by wonderful dark rosy-pink flowers. The petals are lighter on the outer edge and darken towards the centre. Flowers may be single or double. A repeat-bloomer rewarding you right through to the Autumn. Garden plant for flowerbed in moist well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Good in beds, borders, cottage style gardens. Looks particularly well when planted in groups.
Helleborus ‘Double Anna Red’
A clump forming evergreen perennial which provides fantastic Winter colour in the garden. Leathery, dark-green leaves. From late Winter to late Spring, sturdy stems bear large, cup-shaped, double dark red-pink flowers bring a splash to the Winter garden. Petals may be heavily spotted. Garden plant for flowerbed in heavy fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full or partial shade. Shelter from strong, cold winds. Height and spread (approx) - 35cm x 35cm.
Helleborus Frostkiss ‘Glenda’s Gloss’Ā®
A clump forming evergreen perennial which provides fantastic Winter colour in the garden. Leathery, dark-green marbled leaves. From late Winter to late Spring, sturdy stems bear large, cup-shaped, bright white flowers flushed with hints of pink and green. Petals are beautifully edged with a dark purple. Blooming from December into early Spring, they bring a splash of colour to the Winter garden. Position in heavy fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full or partial shade. Shelter from strong, cold winds. Height and spread (approx) - 60 cm x 40 cm.
