Description

Allium schubertii, commonly known as tumbleweed onion or fireworks allium, is a striking bulbous perennial in the Amaryllidaceae family. It produces unique spherical flower heads made up of up to 100 star-shaped pink-purple florets, with prominent stamens radiating outward like fireworks. The dramatic blooms appear in late spring to early summer, reaching a diameter of up to 30 cm and growing on slender stems around 60 cm tall above long, narrow, grass-like leaves.

Care & Planting:
This low-maintenance plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. It tolerates drought conditions and attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Plant bulbs in fall or early spring, 5–10 cm deep, and water regularly during the growing season while allowing soil to dry between watering.

Uses & Appeal:
Allium schubertii adds architectural interest, whimsy, and vibrant colour to borders, rock gardens, or mixed perennial displays. Its striking flower shape also makes it popular for cut flowers and floral arrangements.
