Herbaceous Perennials
Herbaceous plants (in botanical use frequently simply herbs) are plants that have no persistent woody stem above ground. The term is mainly applied to perennials, but in botany it may also refer to annuals or biennials, and include both forbs and graminoids.
Annual herbaceous plants die completely at the end of the growing season or when they have flowered and fruited, and they then grow again from seed.
Herbaceous perennial and biennial plants may have stems that die at the end of the growing season, but parts of the plant survive under or close to the ground from season to season.
Brunnera ‘Jack of Diamonds’ ®
A wonderful perennial that will bring sparkle and interest to shady areas. Forms a spreading clump of silver heart-shaped leaves, frosty in appearance. The large leaves carry striking dark green veining. Clusters of small, dainty looking, baby blue 'forget-me-not' flowers in Spring. Attracts pollinators. Hosta ‘Devon Green’
Hosta are grown for the wonderful foliage. Devon Green forms a dense medium sized mound of highly glossy, dark green, heart-shaped leaves with distinct midribs. Pale lavender flowers in late Summer. Garden plant for flowerbed in moist fertile soil in full or partial shade. Excellent choice for the shade garden, moist woodland garden, good for underplanting, and groundcover. Hosta ‘First Frost’
Hosta are grown for the wonderful foliage. 'First Frost' a dense mound of broad, blue-green, heart-shaped leaves with variegated margins. When new leaves emerge in Spring they are edged with golden yellow which matures to bright white. Excellent ground-cover in shaded area! Pale lavender flowers in late Summer. Myosotidium hortenzia
An exotic looking perennial. Large heart-shaped glossy leaves with deep veins and slightly waved edges. In early Summer, stout stems among or above the foliage bear striking flower clusters. Petals are dark purple-blue towards the centres and pale lilac-white on the outer edges. Garden plant for flowerbed in moist and gritty but well-drained soil in light or partial shade. Wild grow in wet or boggy areas. Shelter from cold winds. Hardy in coastal or milder areas. Height and spread (approx) - 60cm x 60cm.
