Athyrium otophorum ‘Okanum’ is a clump-forming fern which forms a clump of broad, arching fronds with bi-pinnate leaves which are a light yellow-green colour with contrasting dark purple-red stalks. ‘Okanum’ is one of the few evergreen athyrium. This is the perfect fern to add to the garden as it is quite easy to grow. When mature, this plant can reach a maximum mature height of 80 cm and spread of 45 cm. It is a versatile plant, which is perfect for use in under-planting, beds, or woodlands. A true show-stopper in borders. This plant has been awarded The RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM)
Suggested Care: Athyrium otophorum ‘Okanum’ should be planted in very fertile soils which are moist but well-drained, positioned in a partial or fully shaded area. It is important that you do not let the soils dry out as this cultivar required humus-rich soils. Dead or damaged fronds may be removed as necessary but typically this plant dies back in the winter itself. Propagate by sowing spores in mid to late summer (cultivars may not come true) or by division in spring. The perfect plant as it is generally pest and disease free! Protect the crown over winter.
Planting Instructions: Break up the soil well before planting and dig a hole twice the size of the pot. Remove plant from the pot by tapping the rim of the pot in ‘up side down’ position. However, do not pull the plant from the pot. Firm soil after planting and water regularly for the first month.
