Blechnum spicant is an evergreen hardy Fern. Produces lance-shaped dark green, leathery, glossyĀ fronds. Height 50 cm. Grow in moist humus-rich, acid soil in partial shade. Suggested Care: Blechnum spicantĀ should be planted in moist but well-drained, loamy soils, positioned in partial to full shade. It thrives in very shady positions, if planted in sunny positions the leaves will scorch. For best growing conditions, grow in moderately fertile soils. This plant can be divided in early spring. This plant is generally pest free but can be susceptible to damage caused by diseases such as rust in mild damp winters.
Planting Instructions: Break up the soil well before planting and dig a hole twice the size of the pot. Remove plant from the pot by tapping the rim of the pot in āup side downā position. However, do not pull the plant from the pot. Add lots of well rotted leaf mould or garden compost into the planting hole. Firm soil after planting and water regularly for the first month. Remove dead fronds in the spring
