Description

Miscanthus sinensis ‘Malepartus’ is an attractive ornamental grass with fine, arching leaves with a distinctive single white stripe, which change to amazing shades of orange and red in autumn. In late summer to mid autumn it bears amazing red-brown, silky feathery plumes, which appear to glow in the evening light. This is one of the earliest flowering miscanthus sinensis cultivar. This fully hardy grass can reach a maximum mature height of 200 cm and cam spread up to 120 cm. Perfect for a mixed ornamental border or gravel garden and also makes as a good cut flower.

Suggested Care: Miscanthus sinensis ‘Malepartus’ is suitable for well-drained soil in a sunny position but it will tolerate partial shade. Mulch grasses with organic material in the autumn to protect roots and shoots from freezing. Once shoots begin to re-appear in spring, we suggest to cut them back to about 10 cm, giving the plant a rejuvenating lease of life. Can be divided in early spring once maturity is established.

Planting Instructions:Ā Break up the soil well before planting and dig a hole twice the size of the pot. Remove plant from the pot by tapping the rim of the pot in ā€˜up side down’ position. Do not pull the plant from the pot. Firm soil after planting and water regularly for the first month. As this is a tall variety, you should leave space between other plants.
