Osmunda-regalis, also known as the royal fern, is a species of fern that belongs to the family Osmundaceae. It is a perennial plant that can grow up to 200cm tall and has a distinct vase-shaped appearance. The royal fern has a prominent central stalk with large, bright green fronds that are finely divided and feather-like.
This fern is native to Europe, Asia, and North America and is found in damp, woodland areas, bogs, and along streams or rivers. It prefers acidic, moist soil and partial sun to shade.
Osmunda-regalis is a popular ornamental plant in gardens and landscapes due to its elegant, architectural form. It is often used as a focal point or a backdrop in shady areas.
The royal fern has separate fertile and sterile fronds. The fertile fronds bear spore-bearing structures called sporangia, which are located at the tips of the fronds and are covered by brown-tinged, bead-like clusters.
