Arenaria balearica is a stunning evergreen alpine that forms a moss-like carpet of tiny deep green leaves, which are slightly aromatic. It also bears tiny star-like white flowers on very short stems in late spring to early summer. It can reach a maximum height of 5 cm and spread of 45cm. This plant is perfect for use in beds, borders, underplanting and as ground cover. Its flowers appear in May and can last up until August.
Suggested Care: Arenaria Balearica should be planted in moist but well-drained, loamy soils, positioned in a partially shaded area. Direct sunlight may dry out the plant or burn its leaves. It must be protected from excessive winter wet. This plant is easily grown in a rock garden or a crevice in a wall or paving. Arenaria grows best in poor soils. It can be divided or cut to propagate.
Planting Instructions: Break up the soil well before planting and dig a hole twice the size of the pot. Remove plant from the pot by tapping the rim of the pot in ‘up side down’ position. However, do not pull the plant from the pot. Firm soil after planting and water regularly for the first month.
