Description

Allium ‘Gladiator’ is an impressive, large-flowered variety that produces striking spherical blooms made up of clusters of violet-purple, star-shaped florets from May to June. The enormous flower heads, measuring up to 20 cm across, are held on strong, upright stems reaching around 100–120 cm tall, rising above a neat clump of broad, strap-shaped green leaves with a light onion scent.

This eye-catching perennial creates a dramatic vertical accent in borders and mixed plantings and is especially effective when planted in groups. The long-lasting flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, and are excellent for cut flowers, both fresh and dried. This plant has been awarded The RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM).

Suggested Care:
Plant Allium ‘Gladiator’ in gritty, well-drained soil and a sunny position. Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering to feed the bulb for the next season. Remove faded flower heads if self-seeding is unwanted. This variety is drought-tolerant and low maintenance, making it ideal for sunny borders, gravel gardens, or architectural planting schemes.

Planting Instructions: Break up the soil well before planting and dig a hole twice the size of the pot. Remove plant from the pot by tapping the rim of the pot in ‘up side down’ position. Do not pull the plant from the pot. Firm soil after planting and water regularly for the first month.
