Astrantia major ‘Florence’ is a gorgeous herbaceous perennial, with deeply divided, palmate, dark green leaves. In early summer, tall stems bear umbels of unusual coloured, soft lilac-pink flowers with prominent white/pink bracts. These flowers resemble a pincushion. This is one of the tallest Astrantia cultivars, it can reach a maximum height of 90 cm and spread of 60 cm. This truly spectacular plant will produce flowers in July right up until late September. Suggested Care: Astrantia major ‘Florence’Ā should be planted in moist but well-drained soil, positioned in full sun. It should be planted in a spot sheltered from harsh winds. This plant can also withstand partially shaded areas however, a sunny position gives the best foliage colour. If self-seeding is undesired, you should deadhead the flowers before the seed is ripe.Ā
Planting Instructions: Break up the soil well before planting and dig a hole twice the size of the pot. Remove plant from the pot by tapping the rim of the pot in āup side downā position. However, do not pull the plant from the pot. Firm soil after planting and water regularly for the first month.
